Menstrual Hygiene Day 2019

Wow! Another buzzing day at the hive!

Here at Rags to Riches, we recently learned about ‘Menstrual Hygiene Day’ the vision of which is;

To create a world in which every woman and girl is empowered to manage her menstruation safely, hygienically, with confidence and without shame, where no woman or girl is limited by something as natural and normal as her period.

So, what better way to honour such a fabulous cause than to have a day making our amazing Angel Wings©?

We are fortunate to have connected with Boomerang Bags (please read more about their work here; https://www.facebook.com/groups/118123258870851/ ) who in turn have an amazing relationship with Brother ( https://www.brother.ae/product-category/8-sewing-embroidery/ ) and they brought along their wonderful Brother sewing machines and Overlockers/Sergers (depending on where you are from) to help create our Angel Wings© and the individual pouches that each kit is packaged into.

With the Hive at the ready, it didn’t take long before the busy bees started to arrive and the happy throng got into action, all working together for the good of those less fortunate and doing so with love and positive intention.

With approximately 35 ladies of 15 different nationalities, 3 overlockers/sergers and 9 sewing machines, 8 pairs of fabric scissors, several boxes of towelling fabric, many metres of colourful fabrics, a zillion zippers and a bazillion bars of soap, we all set to work.

The ladies at the cutting station cut the towelling napkins and passed them on to the overlocking station where they were whizzed through the overlockers and passed on to the packers.

Simultaneously the pouches were being cut, overlocked, zips being added & passed down the chain of events to be sewn and then on to the packing station where we include the underwear, the soap and enough Angel Wings© to make any young woman’s monthly period more manageable and allow them to carry on with their daily life, be that their education, a job to support their family or just to avoid being marginalised and rejected from everyday life within their community.

With both experienced Bees that know the ropes as well as completely New-Bees eager to learn about our cause, today was a multiplicity of wonderful people all being guided by their desire to make this world a better place. As a result, new skills were learned, new friendships formed and the creation of approximately 250 Angel Wings© kits was realised.

60 of these kits were taken by Fauza Beltz for young ladies in Kenya.

Fauza had contacted me a little while ago and is taking our Angel Wings kits back to Kenya to distribute, today we were blessed to have her company as she worked alongside us, shared her story and told us about the young ladies that she is taking our Angel Wings© to in Kenya.

As always, today at the Hive was incredible. It is both uplifting and truly amazing to be joined by some of our remarkable team members who all work tirelessly towards our shared goal of making this world a better place and sharing the Rags to Riches love.

As always ladies, I thank you for your kindness, support and hard work.

Keep on creating and spreading the Rags to Riches love.

Best wishes, Ceri
