A Journey of Empowerment in Diani, Mombasa
In collaboration with The Pad Movement
The Journey Begins
After weeks of preparation, we finally made our way to Diani, just south of Mombasa, Kenya. Our mission was clear: to distribute Angel Wings reusable sanitary pad kits and equip local mentors with the knowledge and skills to make them — creating a ripple of empowerment that would continue long after we left.

Breaking Barriers, Building Confidence
Language was one of our biggest challenges. The girls at Mabokoni School spoke limited English, and our Swahili was basic at best. But what could have been a barrier became a bridge, thanks to our incredible local mentors, Dorcas and Eric from Mazingira Pamoja and Jeff from Youth Care Africa.
Through interactive workshops and hands-on demonstrations, these mentors made the learning experience fun, respectful, and deeply engaging. By the end of the session, the girls were asking insightful questions about how to use, wash, and care for their Angel Wings — and even how to make them.
“These mentors flitted seamlessly between English and Swahili, turning shy silence into curious engagement.”

Stitching Hope with Every Kit
Our Angel Wings kits are handmade with love by a network of dedicated volunteers around the world. Before this trip even began, hundreds of hours had already been poured into cutting, sewing, and assembling each kit.
“Our volunteers are the quiet heroes behind every smile, every question, every ‘aha’ moment we witnessed in Diani.”
Each kit distributed in Kenya was more than just a package — it was a gift of comfort, confidence, and continuity.
More Than a Product: A Movement of Education
One of the most important takeaways from this trip? The need for education alongside distribution. While Angel Wings serve an essential practical need, it’s the knowledge behind them — how to use, care for, and even create them — that ensures long-term impact.
“It’s not just about what we give — it’s about what we leave behind.”
As a result of this success, we’ve already been invited to expand the project into other communities — a clear sign that the Angel Wings message is spreading and being embraced.

Gratitude and A Call to Action
This journey wouldn’t have been possible without:
- The generous donors who made it financially possible
- Sue from The Pad Movement for connecting us to the communities in Diani
- Our global volunteer family who craft every pad by hand
- And the mentors and girls of Mabokoni School, who welcomed us with open hearts and willing minds
We are humbled, inspired, and motivated to go further — to more communities, more girls, and more opportunities to empower through sustainable menstrual care.
