2016 in Review

🧵 From Sewing Bees to Global Impact

As our second year comes to a close, we sit in quiet awe of what a circle of volunteers, a pile of fabric, and a lot of heart can accomplish.

In 2014, we proved we could send boxes of dignity around the world. In 2015, we proved we could do it again — with greater reach, deeper purpose, and more hands on deck. From the mountains of Nepal to the heart of Cambodia, our handmade dresses, fleeces, dolls, and Angel Wings© reusable pads reached children and communities in need.

We’re still a grassroots project. We don’t have warehouses or offices. But we do have commitment. And thanks to that, we stitched hope into every item that left our hands.

✈️ 2016: Stitching Across Continents

🇺🇬 Uganda — Nkuringo Bright Future School & Nkuringo Village

Through our amazing partners at UAE Trekkers, we sent over seven duffle bags packed with clothing, blankets, shoes, and hats to children in Uganda’s remote Bwindi region. Later that year, we supported Nkuringo Bright Future School with fleece items and warm layers.

“In the mountains, where nights are cold and opportunities are few, a handmade hoodie or a soft blanket becomes more than just comfort — it’s hope, stitched into form.”

🇰🇪 Kenya — Hanne Howard Fund

In November, we responded to a last-minute request: could we provide warm clothes for older children before a volunteer flew out? Absolutely. Thirty hoodies and track bottoms were packed and delivered — simple, cozy, essential.

“No bureaucracy. Just action. That’s what grassroots giving looks like.”

🇷🇼 Rwanda — In Partnership with UAE Trekkers

330 handmade items, carefully crafted by our volunteers, were delivered to children in Rwanda. A collaboration made possible by Laura Keeley and Amy from UAE Trekkers, this was one of our largest single shipments of the year.

“Better get moving on the next one!” was the rallying cry — and move we did.

🇸🇦 Syria — For Syria Organisation & Amani Children’s Home

This year, Syria needed us. Twice. We sent over 500 items — hoodies, shoes, fleece track pants, knitted jumpers, hats, mittens, and Angel Wings pads — to refugees affected by the ongoing crisis.

“Each item packed for Syria felt heavier than fabric. It carried compassion, prayers, and the ache of watching from afar.”

🇮🇳 India — Harmony House, Railway Children & Chennai Outreach

From Delhi to Chennai, we supported multiple Indian partners. Harmony House received over 60 kilos of handmade clothes and essentials for street children. In Chennai, 150 garments were delivered to families living in extreme poverty. And to the Railway Children Project, we sent 50 shoes and sets of underwear — a small gesture for children with big futures.

“To clothe a child is to wrap them in possibility.”

🇵🇰 Pakistan — Al Sajjad Memorial Trust

We met with their founder and sent 100 pairs of shoes for the children. When asked if we could sew traditional Salwar Kameez, we began searching for patterns — determined to preserve culture while gifting care.

“Respect begins with relevance. We listen, learn, and then stitch.”

🇪🇬 Egypt — Inja Initiative

To children in Cairo, we sent dresses, shirts, shorts, and shoes — light, cheerful, and ready for play. A small shipment. A big impact.

🇲🇲 Myanmar (Burma)

Dozens of skirts, all made from tailor’s offcuts that would have otherwise gone to landfill, found new life and new little owners in Myanmar.

“Nothing is wasted. Not fabric. Not kindness.”

🇹🇿 Tanzania — ZASO and Local Villages

This story moved us. Our volunteer Sara Hart traveled with her family to Zanzibar with over 250 items — skirts, hats, dresses, shoes. When they arrived at ZASO, an unfunded local group supporting HIV-affected families, they shared not just clothing but conversation, community, and connection.

“A dirt road. A makeshift school. And the realisation that a single skirt can change how a girl sees herself.”

🇸🇩 Congo — Pygmy School Distribution

Through UAE Trekkers, we reached children at a pygmy school, many of whom were refugees. The gratitude shown in smiles and handshakes was overwhelming.

“They didn’t have the words to say thank you, but they tried anyway. And we felt it.”

🇦🇪 UAE — Helping Hands Dubai & Labourer Outreach

At home, we served too. 200 pillows were donated to local workers. In DIP, another 75 went out to labourers who rarely receive thanks, let alone comfort.

“Charity begins at home — and continues beyond borders.”

🪡 2016 By the Numbers

Over 1,500 handmade items delivered14+ countries reached
100s of handmade toys, scarves, hats, and hygiene kits createdThousands of hours of sewing, sorting, packing, and giving
Countless smiles, even when we couldn’t see them

Each item was checked, folded, labeled, and packed with love. No two items were ever the same. Every one was made for someone specific — even if we didn’t know their name.

💬 What 2016 Taught Us

We learned that:

  • Community-led aid works
  • Nothing is too small to matter
  • Giving with respect is just as important as giving with love

Our work is still powered by kitchen tables, WhatsApp groups, donated fabric, and heart. And that’s more than enough.
